The Journey to Kraličák
We had just finished the book Nečíst with Mirek Krobot and Markéta Nekolová. We were all happy with the result—he with the content, I with the visuals, and Markéta proudly as the editor-in-chief. The book came out beautifully in print, and we were all thrilled with such a wonderful collaboration. We had planned an exhibition in a café in Dejvice, but unfortunately, it was cancelled due to COVID.

But the book wasn’t the end. Mirek and I had fallen in love with the illustration of Kraličák. That’s when the idea was born—to transform the illustration into a large-format painting on canvas. At the time, many things were shifting in my life. I was breaking up with my then-partner and moving to Beroun—and I had no idea what was still to come.
Four and a half years of an intense life ride followed: I met a new partner, we moved into a lovely little apartment in Řevnice, celebrated the birth of our daughter, and 15 months later, our son. A wedding, stormy relationship clouds, separation, reunion, my total mental breakdown, another move, and the purchase of a flat in Liberec—followed by what I hope is a happy divorce.

Now I’m standing on my own two feet again. Moved into the most beautiful little apartment with a heavenly garden in Liďáky, Liberec, my children growing like weeds, and with the discovery of a new passion—painting—it finally feels like the right time.
Time for Kraličák. Time to paint the picture. Time for the mountain Mirek has been waiting for, for nearly five years.
And here it is—and on Wednesday, he’ll finally have it in his hands.
